The Carpenter's Arms - Bethnal Green

This one is built into the wall of a high rise council block and before I'd even walked in, I noticed that there was red neon lights under the bar which made it look like some sort of sex shrine.

The music choice is a bit like stuff that your overweight older sister had on the radio when she was giving you and your mates a lift in her Fiat Uno. Kind of cringeworthy and embarrassing to be alive.

I ordered something called Whitbread Best Bitter as I'd never seen it before and was under the impression it might be a local beer from an artisan micro brewery with a floral note on the nose. Alas, it was a pint of brown-amber piss. The kind of colour comes out of your tackle when you've been out in the sun all day and hydrated only by cans of fizzy lager.

I managed about 4 sips before admitting defeat and cutting my losses, the 3 and a half quid odd I'd spent was gone forever and so I headed for the door.
